Matthew B. Mills, M.D.
Board Certified Ophthalmologist
Raised in Houston, Texas, Dr. Mills attended Houston Baptist University for his undergraduate studies and
University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for medical school. He then completed internship at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., followed by Ophthalmology residency at Louisiana
State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Mills then became Chief of the Ophthalmology
Department at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, Kansas, for three years. Following this
assignment, in 1999 Dr. Mills moved to Reno to join Dr. Schonder and Eye Care Professionals.
Dr. Mills has been performing cataract surgery since 1993 and refractive surgery since 1995. Additionally,
he has conducted research in the area of refractive surgery and is published in Ophthalmology texts on the
subject of the cornea, the primary structure modified in refractive procedures. Dr. Mills was the first surgeon
to perform Wavefront Custom Cornea LASIK in Reno. In addition, Dr. Mills was selected to become the first
surgeon to implant the groundbreaking ReStor lens implant in Northern Nevada. Dr. Mills has also been a
lecturer for the continuing education of other surgeons in the US on the topic of presbyopia correcting IOL
implants.
Dr. Mills has performed thousands of successful
ophthalmic laser procedures as well as intraocular
surgeries and would be glad to discuss all aspects
of medical and surgical care of the eye with
you. Dr. Mills has extensive expertise in cataract
and refractive surgery including presbyopia
correcting IOLs, LASIK, PRK and more recently
ICL surgery. Dr. Mills' expertise also allows
him to offer Refractive Lens Exchange for appropriate
candidates. In addition Dr. Mills is at the
forefront of Glaucoma diagnosis and treatment
offering state of the art diagnostic evaluations,
in-office lasers for glaucoma and an advanced
intraocular laser treatment for glaucoma known
as ECP.
Dr. Mills is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Academy
of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, a member of the Washoe
County Medical Society and the Nevada Ophthalmology Society.
Dr. Mills and his wife Wendy along with their two sons enjoy outdoor and sporting activities including skiing,
hiking, fishing, golf and basketball in their spare time. Dr. Mills has also competed in several triathlons and
one marathon. Dr. Mills and his family attend Grace Church in Northwest Reno.
