LASIK: The standard of care... performed to a new standard
Today, many people who would otherwise wear glasses or contact lenses are having LASIK done, instead.
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is today’s most widely performed type of vision correction. It consists of creating a flap in the eye’s cornea, then using a special laser to precisely sculpt the cornea to the correct shape. A brief procedure requiring only a few minutes, LASIK can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism for many people.
Traditional LASIK uses an instrument known as a microkeratome to cut a flap into the eye's clear cornea. Laser energy then reshapes the eye for precise vision correction. An alternative method for creating a LASIK flap uses a second high-energy laser to create the flap instead of a microkeratome blade.
In Reno, we introduced WaveFront custom LASIK vision correction, which maximizes precision and completely individualizes the correction for each patient, optimizing results. We were also among the first in the area to use the IntraLase® method, also known as iLASIK. Today, we remain one of very few providers using these more exacting approaches. Our precision techniques customize treatment, minimize risk and optimize outcomes for our patients.
Refractive surgery can help reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses or contact lenses, too. Eye Care Professionals’ ophthalmic surgeons are recognized leaders in refractive surgery who have pioneered methods and have experience and capabilities few other providers possess.
