Our Procedures : LASIK

LASIK
Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) represents a significant step toward a person's independence from their corrective lenses.

Experience
Our surgeons have performed thousands of successful refractive procedures since 1985 and have been doing LASIK surgery since 1998.

Service We know how important service is, both before and after your procedure. Unlike some practices in the area, your surgeon will meet with you for your pre-operative evaluation to answer any questions or concerns. Your surgeon examines and evaluates your LASIK results at all your post-operative examinations to evaluate the success of the LASIK procedure.

The Procedure
First, your eye will be anesthetized using eye drops. Then, a device called a speculum will be placed to prevent you from blinking. An instrument known as a microkeratome will then make a flap in the cornea of your eye. During this process a feeling of slight pressure may occur. You will then be asked to look directly at a target light while the laser reshapes your cornea. The doctors use the latest VISX S-3 laser with 3D active tracker feature that follows your eye movements during the laser process. This part of the procedure usually takes less than a minute. After your cornea has been reshaped, the protective flap will be folded back in place. After LASIK, you may feel slight discomfort, which will usually go away within 12-24 hours.

How it Works To treat nearsightedness, the cornea must be made flatter. This is accomplished by removing tissue from the center of the cornea. To treat farsightedness, the central cornea must be made steeper, by directing the laser beam to remove tissue around the cornea. To treat astigmatism, the cornea must be made more spherical. This is done by changing the pattern of the beam, allowing tissue to be removed in one direction more than another. LASIK is similar to PRK although it happens underneath the flap cut into the cornea, allowing the correction of higher degrees of nearsightedness, while decreasing healing time and discomfort.

Cost
The cost is $1,800 per eye, which includes consultation, surgery, laser facility fees and one year follow-up with your surgeon. Financing is available, so for about $40 per eye per month, you can now have LASIK Eye Surgery. (No other discounts apply.)
